Italian Citizenship program
We are able to assist with the acquisition of Italian citizenship and can offer complete assistance including housing, language courses and completion of the citizenship application. The most important part of the process is the initial evaluation to determine whether or not you are entitled to Italian citizenship. Please email us for a free evaluation. Once this is completed, the next important step is obtaining the necessary documentation to successfully file the application. We can assist with document procurement, translation and legalization of necessary documents. For complete assistance, we are pleased to assist in locating adequate housing in beautiful Tuscany with special language courses and fast-track issuance of your citizenship recognition.
Common ways to acquire Italian Citizenship
Ancestry
Italian citizenship is based upon the principal of jure sanguinis (blood right), meaning the child born of an Italian father or mother is also an Italian citizen. It was not possible for an Italian mother to transfer Italian citizenship to her child until after January 1, 1948. Before that, Italian citizenship was transferred to a child only by the father.
If you were born in the United States (or any other Country where citizenship is acquired by birth), and any one of the situations listed below pertains to you, you may be considered elegible to obtain the italian citizenship.
» If your father was an Italian citizen at the time of your birth and you have never renounced your right to Italian citizenship.
» If your mother was an Italian citizen at the time of your birth, you were born after January 1st, 1948 and have never renounced your right to Italian citizenship.
» If your paternal grandfather was an Italian citizen at the time of your father's birth, neither you nor your father ever renounced their right to Italian citizenship..
» If your maternal grandfather was an Italian citizen at the time of her birth, you were born after January 1, 1948 and neither you nor your mother ever renounced your right to Italian citizenship.
» If your paternal great grandfather was an Italian citizen at the time of his birth, neither you nor your father nor your grandfather ever renounced their right to Italian citizenship (please note: a grandmother born before 01/01/1948 can claim the Italian citizenship only from her father and can transfer it to descendants after 01/01/1948).
NOTE: "Italian citizen at the time of birth" means that he/she did not acquire any other citizenship through naturalization, before the descendant's birth.
Marriage
If you are married to an Italian citizen and legally reside in Italy for a period of six months after the marriage or for three years after the marriage if residing abroad, you are entitled to Italian citizenship. With a copy of your marriage certificate and absence of criminal convictions, we can assist with the application.
Living in Italy - Naturalization
You are entitled to Italian citizenship if you have legally resided in Italy: for one year if you have formerly held Italian citizenship; for three years if you are a foreigner with native-born Italian parents or grandparents; for four years if you are a citizen of another EU country; or, for ten years if you are a citizen of a non-EU country.
Re-acquisition of Italian citizenship in the event one lost his/her citizenship
In the event of lost citizenship, Italian citizenship may be reacquired automatically after one year from the date in which legal residency was established in Italy, providing that no renouncement was made.
