Following the entry into force of the new law on citizenship (Law no. 74), The Ministry of the Interior has begun issuing circulars to provide officials with guidance on how to apply the new provisions.
Accordingly, circular no. 59/2025 of June 17th, 2025, has just been published, containing instructions for civil registry officials on how to perform two procedures related to Italian citizenship applications: registration of minor children and reacquisition of Italian citizenship.

This procedure applies to individuals who lost their citizenship before August 16th, 1992, following articles 8 (paragraphs 1 and 2) and 12 of law 555/1912.
Therefore, applicants must fall within the categories outlined below:
In all cases, applicants are required to follow the steps outlined by the competent authority, pay a government fee and submit all necessary documentation, including a declaration of intent specifically drafted to reflect their individual situation.
