On March 28, 2025, the Italian government issued Decree-Law No. 36, introducing significant reforms to the rules governing citizenship by descent. Over the past few weeks, the decree has been the subject of intense debate in the Senate.
As of May 15, the Senate has approved the final text of the decree, which is now in the hands of the Chamber of Deputies. However, it is important to note that this does not yet represent a definitive approval. The decree must sill be examined and confirmed by the Chamber of Deputies in order to be fully converted into law.
This is, therefore, a partial approval, and a key step forward, but not the conclusion of the legislative process.
Further updates on the contents of the approved text will be shared in the upcoming alerts.
