[Updated 01/07/2020] Italy re-open its gates to 15 countries!

Jul 01, 2020

[latest updates 01/07/2020]

All countries are equal but some countries are more equal than others!

Further to the EU guidelines, the Italian Government has lifted travel restrictions as from 1 July for residents of the following 15 countries:

•        Algeria
•        Australia
•        Canada
•        Georgia
•        Japan
•        Montenegro
•        Morocco
•        New Zealand
•        Rwanda
•        Serbia
•        South Korea
•        Thailand
•        Tunisia
•        Uruguay
•        China, subject to confirmation of reciprocity

REMARKS:

Travellers from the listed 15 countries no longer need to have “work, urgent or health reasons” for entering the country but will continue to be required to self-isolate for 14 days, under the supervision of the competent health authorities, at their home or other address of their choice or at a facility designated by the regional Civil Protection authority.

Travellers from all other countries will need to have “work, urgent or health reasons” for being allowed entry but “entry for study” has been added. They will also continue to be required to self-isolate for 14 days.

UPDATES

The list is going to be reviewed and updated every two weeks. Each member state will decide how to implement the content of the recommendation.

For countries where travel restrictions continue to apply, the following categories of people should be exempted from the restrictions
•        EU citizens and their family members
•        long-term EU residents and their family members
•        travellers with an essential function or need, as listed in the Recommendation.

Travelling to Italy is now possible if you are coming from some countries but not for everyone.

Starting from June 3rd, it is possible to move freely throughout the country without the need of a justified reason and travel restrictions have been lifted for travellers coming from the EU and UK (all EU Member States, Schengen Area Countries, United Kingdom and also Andorra, Monaco; San Marino and Vatican State) who will no longer be required to quarantine upon arrival. Exceptions apply for those who have been outside the countries listed above within 14 days of travelling to Italy. A list of frequently asked questions is available in multiple languages in the Ministry of Foreign affairs website.

Visitors from outside the EU should be allowed again in the country after June 15 – in line with the EU Commission recommendation.
