Italy Passport delays may be 9 months long

Apr 07, 2023

After Brexit and Covid19, the request of passports has blown-up, and the Italian government has been facing some issues with the processing time of passports.

However, the situation is not the same in every city. Currently, in many cities (for example, Milan), it is possible to obtain an appointment to request the passport only after 8 – 9 months. In some other cities the situation can be much better, while in some others like Genova and Padova have encountered problems of not being able to obtain even an appointment.

According to the authorities, such delay is due to various factors, such as the boom of requests for travel documents after the lockdown and Brexit, the lack of staff in passport office (a section of the police office), and the Mint’s issues with passport books.
