In order to attract foreign investment, the Italian government allows entrepreneurs to apply for a self-employment visa by presenting a €500,000 investment plan that creates at least 3 jobs.

The application is to be filed directly with the Italian consulate having jurisdiction over the applicant’s country of residence. To apply, you shall submit a business plan including an investment of at least 500.000 euros and the creation of at least 3 new jobs in Italy. You should be responsible for your own financial resources. Another of the documents to be submitted is a certification issued by the Chamber of Commerce in Italy where the entrepreneur intends to establish the business.

The consulate will require submission of several other documents such as proof of additional funds, tax return, availability of an accommodation in Italy, health insurance etc.; additional documents can be required at the consulate discretion.

Once the application is filed, it may take up to 120 days for the Consulate to approve/reject the visa. If the visa is issued, the applicant can travel to Italy where will have to file the residence permit application within 8 days.
