Visa for Internationally Well-Known Artists: Self-Employment

Visa for Internationally Well-Known Artists Self-Employment
3 March 2021

Internationally well-known and highest repute artists, artists of recognised high professional qualification or artists who are hired by well-known Italian theatres, important public institutions, public television or well-known national private televisions (requirements set in Visa Decree May 11, 2011 n.850) can apply for an artist self-employment visa (long stay – D type).

This type of visa is issued within the “quota” limits i.e. the number of authorised entries reserved to foreign nationals set each year by the government. In order to apply for the self-employment artist visa the applicant must have self-employment contract/s in place with an Italian impresario, company, institution etc. with a compensation well above the minimum set forth for workers employed in the same sector in Italy.

Short term artist visas (under 90 days) are not subject to the “quota” limits.
