There is a new proposal issued by the 5th commission of the Italian Senate. It basically proposes to include a new category of permit of stay, which is the permit of Stay for digital nomads of third country nationals in the Italian Consolidated Immigration Law – Testo unico sull’immigrazione (Legislative Decree no. 286 of 1998).
If approved, it is expected that digital nomads will be able to apply for it outside of the “flussi system”, and surprisingly, it also proposes that there is no need to previously requests for a work permit (nulla osta) as it happens with the other categories of work permits/visas. Furthermore, it is expected that this type of permit will be issued for a period not exceeding one year, and the applicant shall have valid health insurance and he/she will be required to comply with Italian fiscal and contributory provisions.
From a practical point of view, and taking into consideration the other types of Italian permits of stay, we believe that the list of requirements for “Italian Digital Nomads Visa“will not be very easy.
Finally, it must be highlighted that this is still a proposal and has not yet been implemented into the Italian legal order, however, this is the first time the term Digital Nomads has been officially placed on the table for further discussion.
