Faster Work Permit Processing Time: The Italian Parliament has definitively approved a law to streamline and digitalize bureaucratic procedures. The law has been definitively approved and will enter into force after publication in the Official Gazette.
The bill also introduces new provisions to Italy’s immigration law. In particular:
- Work permit application processing time reduced to 30 days for foreign workers who completed professional and civic-linguistic training programs abroad (previously 60 days) and for highly qualified workers – EU Blue Card (previously 90 days)
- Streamlined housing suitability requirements in the following cases:
- If the employer provides accommodation in an on-site workers’ accommodation at the construction site, it is sufficient for the employer to submit a self-certification confirming that the accommodation meets the required health and safety standards.
- If the accommodation is in a hotel or other similar facility, it is enough to indicate the hotel booking. Actually, the use of hotels as proof of housing suitability was already common practice accepted by the immigration offices (generally a letter of booking confirmation issued by the hotel is accepted). However, this practice has now been confirmed in law the law, simplifying procedures.
