Self-employment visa for directors and officers of an existing Italian company

To attract foreign direct investment, the Italian government provides a specific self-employment visa pathway for entrepreneurs implementing projects that are deemed beneficial to the national economy.

Eligibility criteria include:

• A minimum investment of €500,000, and
• The creation of at least three new jobs in Italy.

Applications must be submitted directly to the Italian Consulate with jurisdiction over the applicant’s country of residence.

Application Procedure

To apply, the entrepreneur must submit:

• A detailed business plan that includes:
  • An investment of at least €500,000
  • The creation of at least 3 new jobs in Italy
  • Confirmation that the financial resources originate directly from the applicant
• A certificate issued by the local Chamber of Commerce where the business will be established
• Supporting documentation including:
  • Proof of additional financial means
  • Tax return
  • Evidence of accommodation in Italy
  • Valid health insurance

Please note: The Consulate may request additional documents at its discretion.

Once the application is submitted, processing times can take up to 120 days. If the visa is granted, the applicant must travel to Italy and submit a residence permit application within 8 days of arrival.
