The Practical Handbook for Border Guards

To ensure that the rules of the Schengen Borders Code are applied in the same way by all the Member States’ authorities, in 2006 the Commission established a common “Practical Handbook for Border Guards (Schengen Handbook – Recommendation of 6 November 2006 (C(2006)5186 final)”. The Practical Handbook lays down guidelines, best practices, and recommendations relating to the performance of border guard duties in the Schengen States. The goal is to ensure that Community rules on border controls are implemented in a uniform way by all national authorities competent for carrying out border control tasks.

Where to find the Practical Handbook?

The Practical Handbook has been established in 2006 and since then has been amended several times (2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2018)
