DL 145/2024 on Entry of Foreign Workers, Exploitation, and Asylum Becomes Law: stricter rules on family reunification confirmed. The Senate has given final approval to DL 145/2024, which introduces urgent measures regarding the entry of foreign workers into Italy (https://www.mazzeschi.it/new-measures-for-the-entry-to-italy-of-foreign-workers-anti-exploitation-efforts-and-migration-management/) protection for victims of labor exploitation, management of migration flows, and international protection, as well as related legal proceedings.
Key changes include stricter rules for family members of foreign nationals. With the exception of holders of residence permits granted for recognition of international protection, foreign nationals can have family members join them (spouse, disabled children over 18 years, parents under certain conditions) only after a continuous period of at least two years of legal residence in Italy. The new rule does not apply to children under 18 years of age.
Additionally, housing suitability certificates will only be issued by municipalities after verifying the number of people living in the property and other required conditions.
