Procedure for Italian passport issuance and renewal simplified
Interministerial Decree No. 242 of 23 September 2025 introduced an important simplification for citizens applying for their first passport or renewing an existing one.
Starting from December 1st 2025, passport issuance and renewal fees can be paid online through Poste Italiane channel or via PagoPA.
Traditional payments methods will remain available, but for those comfortable with digital payment system, apps and home banking offer a valid alternative.
With this shift, the fee for passport issuance and renewal has also slightly increased, from €42.50 to €42.70
