In this article, you will find the answers to the most frequent questions on the required documents for third-country nationals with an Italian regular residencepermit to register with the Italian national health care system (SSN).

Please note that the following are standard information/requirements, and the Italian authorities may request additional documents at their discretion.

1. Which are the required documents (for a person holding a work permit either for employment or seasonal work reasons) for the SSN?

• Permit of stay (or receipt of application/renewal of the permit of stay)

• Identity document

• Self-certification of residence or declaration of actual residence

2. How long does the SSN last?

The registration with SSN will have the same duration as the permit of stay.

3. Which documents does a person who entered Italy with a regular work visa under the decreto-flussi system and she/he is waiting for the issuance of the first residence permit to be issued need to submit for the registration with the SSN?

• Receipt of submission of permit of stay application

• Copy of the clearance issued by the Immigration Office

11. Is a person with a residence permit for study purposes entitled to registration with the Italian national health care system?

Yes, in the above case, it is possible to register with the SSN. However, this type of registration is subject to the payment of an annual flat-rate contribution
